Supporting strong neighborhoods and a city where we all have the opportunity to thrive

My name is Barbara Harrington-McKinney. I am an experienced community leader and I am seeking re-election in 2025 as Alder for District 20.

I have experience and am prepared to serve on the first day. I care deeply about our community, I will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

I ask for your vote on April 1, 2025.

Together, we can continue to move this beautiful district forward.
We will continue to make Madison a city that works for all people.
Choice for Leadership - Why Madison?

I am running to represent District 20 on the Madison Common Council.
This is not political for me, I run to bring a strong voice to the issues that affect the daily lives of not only the residents of District 20 but also to hold city government more transparent and accountable in its administration.
This next year will be a complex year filled with uncertainty at both the Federal and especially at the local level. I am experienced. Ready to work on priorities: public safety, a city budget that is fiscally responsible, housing stability with a focus on affordable missing middle housing options, prioritizing the high standards of essential public services and a transparent, accountable city government that serves and represents the people who put their trust in them.
This next term requires an experienced representative to serve as the District 20 Alder. 2025 begins the staggered aldermanic terms. Even numbered District Alders will serve a one year term. The District 20 Alder serves a one year term.

Public Safety
Everyone should feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods. I supported additional Community Police Officers, the Body-Worn Camera Pilot for Madison's Northside, and a Public Health approach to gun violence. I also support the CARES program, which sends mental health professionals to non-violent behavioral emergency calls that do not require law enforcement.

Housing
As the city grows, we need more housing options and opportunities. Home ownership helps build generational wealth, and programs to promote ownership need to be balanced with the need for more urban density.

City Services
Our residents deserve high-quality city services at a price we can afford. Our bus system must be equitable and accessible to all. I voted against salary increases for Alders that some of my opponents supported. At a time when families are struggling, we should be focused on the needs of those we serve, not giving ourselves a pay raise.

Equity and Access
I will always bring your voice to the table. Our City and its government must be more transparent and welcoming to all. I will continue to support initiatives that increase accountability, transparency, and measured outcomes and keep the public aware of city-level decisions.
